Very near this cache is a bench placed in honor of Phyllis Haugh by her loving husband Derald. Please, sit on the bench, relax, and enjoy the story (you won't find the cache without the hint at the end). We never had the pleasure of meeting Phyllis, but we did meet the elderly Derald early one morning during a sunrise walk. We had seen Derald many times, always walking along the shoreline with a scrub brush, rag, and bottle of cleaning solution in his hands. We thought it odd but never asked about it. Then one day we saw him kneeling down cleaning "The Bench". As the days, weeks, months, and years passed we saw Derald cleaning The Bench regularly, almost daily it seemed. We finally spoke with him one morning and he told us the story of his deep, enduring love for Phyllis, her passing, and the importance of maintaining her bench "just so". Truly a storybook love for those two. Enjoy your loved ones today. Hint: black buffalo tube in old pipe in rock slab -- 8 feet NORTH of bench (check your compass). Please replace as found.
