Geocache Description:

This cache celebrates the history of the iron industry in Danville.  The house visible at the top of the hill was once home to brothers Michael and John Grove who owned the Grove Iron Furnace in Danville.

The Grove Iron Furnace was built in 1839 and was one of the first anthracite iron furnaces in this country.  The brothers were also superintendents of the Montour Iron Works from 1850-1857. Their magnificent residence, named "Castle Grove" was built in 1867 and in 1919 became the home of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius.  This property is now the national headquarters of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

Parking is available outside the gate.  Cache is small, so bring your own pen.

“Private Property” and “No Trespassing” signs do not apply to cachers, but if anyone asks what you are looking for, identify yourself as a Geocacher.  Lots of people live here, and none of them are muggles. They might even be helpful.

Also, please be respectful of the “NO SMOKING ON THE GROUNDS” rule that we have. No night caching, please. Thank you.

Placed for our October 2013 event. Enjoy!
