The Ponds is a new suburb of Sydney located 40 kilometres north-west of the CBD. It's name was designed to reflect the geography of the area and was derived from the nearby Second Ponds Creek. One of the highlights of this suburb is a large reservoir that borders the east side of The Ponds Boulevard near the junction with Schofields Road. The surrounding wetland is home to a variety of wildlife such as swans, ducks, and other aquatic creatures. The land immediately adjoining this body of water is sometimes referred to as 'Lakeside', so it's unclear whether is should be classified as a small lake, or a large pond. This is our second geocache hide and is, in many respects, a humble tribute to the owner of an elaborately constructed cache hidden not far from this which was later voluntarily archived and removed by the owner (in somewhat controversial circumstances) due to safety concerns raised by fellow geocachers. While I never had the opportunity to find that particular cache (and don't want to get drawn into any debates surrounding the geocaching guidelines), I have immensely enjoyed finding (and on occasion, thoroughly frustrated by DNF) some of the cache owner's other creative and devious hides placed around The Hills District: it's clear that a lot of time and effort has gone into constructing them and I look forward to hunting for many more ingeniously clever hides (that adhere to the guideline requirements!) from aforementioned CO in the future!
This cache contains a small assortment of swappable items for kids and should be easily accessible for most. There are no nails or screws involved whatsoever in this hide, and while the container is lightly camouflaged, there is almost zero chance you will confuse it with any existing structural item. During the day the surrounding area has generally high muggle activity in the morning and late afternoon so stealth may be required. Night is probably a good time to hunt for this cache, although despite being well-lit you will still probably need a torch to help locate the cache.
Once you've found this hide, you may like to try another, more challenging cache nearby; A Big Pond
