Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO badger49 - FTF
Terrain Warning - there are 130 steps leading down to the cache from the Cyrus Gates Overlook parking area (thus the terrain rating of 4). DO NOT CLIMB THE ROCK TO FIND THE CACHE! IT IS NOT ON TOP!!!

Washington Trails Association, along with volunteers from the Chuckanut Conservancy and the Mount Baker Club, spent over 4,000 hours building the Rock Trail which officially opened in late April 2014. The Rock Trail provides a shorter hiking route between Cyrus Gates Lookout and Lost Lake. Previously, the only other hiking route to Lost Lake was 4 miles long.

One of the sandstone cliff walls en route to the cache.

The Rock Trail offers some spectacular features such as a 50 million-year-old sandstone rock formation, streams, cliffs, steep ravines, a log bridge, plus views of Mount Baker and the Twin Sisters peaks on a clear day.

For more adventure, continue traveling beyond the cache to intersect the South Lost Lake Trail. A left turn takes you to the Lost Lake Trail 1.5 miles from the start of the Rock Trail. A right takes you on a long sweep to the Fragrance Lake area.

NOTE: With over 160 wooden steps along the entire Rock Trail to the South Lost Lake Trail intersection, this hike is not for the faint of heart!
