Bridge
Holmfoss bridge crosses over the river Lågen west of Kvelde center and is part of Highway 304. The bridge was built between 1934-1936 with overhead steel trusses as a support structure designed for 10 ton axle load. The span is 68 meters long. Holmfoss bridge is now the only bridge of this type and standard on the Larvik side of river. When new, the bridge was the only crossing between Bommestad and Svarstad. But a year later came Hvåra bridge. A pedestrian and bicycle path were built along the south side of the bridge in 1980.
Waterfall
Holmfoss is the middle of three waterfalls or rapids on the Lågen's way through Larvik. The fall is approximately two meters spread over several races over a distance of just under 100 meters. Holmfoss is a landmark in the river, especially during floods. But it is the salmon fishing in the summer people flock here for, some for fishing, others just to see.
The waterfall and its surroundings are very easily accessible and tourist-related adaptations were made by the landowners in 1995. Here you will find hiking trails along the river banks, shelters, green areas, restrooms and a fishing spot accessible by the handicapped. On the west bank below the falls is also a nice beach.
