Geocache Description:

This is the second cache

The historic lower gates have been repaired thanks to a grant of about £50,000 from Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund which is distributed by English Heritage. Kirklees Council used it to organise repairs to the stone walls and cast iron gates that form the atmospheric gateway to the park. Following six months of hard work to clear the area of overgrown vegetation the gates were officially opened by the Mayor of Kirklees, Jean Calvert, on 27 April 2008.

The paths leading down the gates and the old castle site have been cleared by Friends of Beaumont Park volunteers, Huddersfield Rotary, 105th & 79th Huddersfield Guide Companies and the Probation Service.

On your way to this cache, you will pass near an Earthcache have a look and see if you can answer the questions, to claim the earthcache

Please note the paths can be steep, and slippy, also the steps may be uneven, so please be careful

When at the lower gates sit and admire them, the cache will be to your right under a boulder.

Due to tree cover and boulders, GPS co ordinates may be a bit different so please feel free to let us know as we have taken Co ordinates on numerous days and in different  weather conditions

We would advise this cache not to be attempted at night due to its location and the terrain

Please replace cache so its hidden well.

There is a lot of wildlife around here which you may see on your adventures There is a lot of tree cover with large boulders, which may affect GPS readings, so the hint may be very useful.

From No 1 walk up to the gates and take the right footpath passing the visitors centre and toilets. walk along the path until it splits take the right path down the steps, on your way to this cache you will pass an earthcache. Be very careful as it is steep, slippy and uneven.

congratulations to The Gom Squad on FTF
