Geocache Description:

Cache is located near the Swallowtail Lighthouse.

Trail to cache is steep as you get close to cache.

Should be winter friendly, depending on snow fall.

Cliffs are steep near cache,  pay attention to childern and pets.

Great place to get pictures of the ferry, weirs and seals, and birds.

Swallowtail Lightstation is the first thing you see as you approach Grand Manan Island by ferry. The wonderful panoramic view of the coastline coupled with this historic, old wooden lighthouse makes this a perfect setting for photographers, artists and sightseers.

This is a definite "must-see"! Swallowtail is the most photographed lighthouse in New Brunswick.

Established in 1860 and altered in 1980, this active lighthouse still has its original tower, one of only a handful of remaining wooden light towers in Canada and has been recognized by the Federal Heritage Building Review Office.

This is an excellent spot to watch the sunrise, see the ferry as it passes by, or to check out the interesting rock formations. You can also have a good look into the "Cora Belle" and "Intruder" herring weirs (fish traps located below the rock cliffs). Watch the water for seals, Harbour porpoises and whales.

Access to the lighthouse is by footbridge and narrow walking path, 100 m (328 ft.) long
