The University of the West of Scotland sits on the North Bank of the River Ayr on the former site of terraced and landscaped gardens of the historic Craigie House. The site in particular was noted for its large maze and nearby grounds hosted Pitch and Putt, Archery and boating. Only the archery survives at its former location.
A caravan site nestles nearby and to the East of the cache a metalled bridge takes you to an easy walk into Ayr along the North bank. From this location both sides of the river provide a longer walk/cycle to the East and the grounds of Auchincruive Estate.
The gardens adjacent to the cache are well maintained and are a popular walking area with plenty of on street parking. The gardens sit opposite the historic cemetry and the challenging path that runs to the West passes the site of the former County Hospital, now demolished and turned into private flats.
