Mosaic Fish/Mackerel
"In 1996, with funding from The William MacGillivray Bi-Centenary Project, the Mosaic Fish was the first sculpture commissioned by Taigh Chearsabhagh.
The mosaic artist Rosalind Wates won the commission, and in the summer of 1996 created the mosaic mackerel using locally found materials such as quartz, basalt rock, mussel shells and worn down coloured glass on the rocky shore of Lochmaddy next to the Taigh Chearsabhagh Arts Centre and Museum. The sculpture reflects the importance of mackerel, and fish in general, to the economy and heritage of the area. It was highly commended in the Shell UK/ Grampian Television Scottish Environmental Awards."
