Geocache Description:

Truskmore summit is the highest point in Co. Sligo and it also has the highest point in Co. Leitrim as the border goes over the top of the mountain.

The advised route to this cache is as follows:

- Park at the bottom of the RTE access road, (waypoint given), making sure not to obstruct the gate as vehicles do enter regularly.

- Hike up the paved road of approximately 4.5km and when you reach the top, walk to the left of the main mast in the direction of the cache co-ordinates and you will find the trig marker at 647m. You will have some beautiful views on the way up (weather permitting) towards North Sligo and South Donegal, as well as at the summit.

- As you will have already done alot of walking to get this far, I have not made the cache hard to find and the hint should definitely lead you to it quickly.

The cache is an ammo can with a logbook and pencil inside. There is room for trackables or swapables. Please replace exactly as you found it as it gets very windy up here and I do not want it to blow away!

If you are familiar with hill-walking in this area, you may want to access it from another angle, but please be careful either way and take all the necessary precautions.

WARNING:

This site is at high altitude and is therefore prone to unpredictable and severe weather conditions, particularly high winds. Be aware that even on the best of days, the temperature at the summit is usually a few degrees lower than it is at the start of the hike, so wear clothing & footwear accordingly. I would also reccommend some food and enough water for the duration of the hike.

Particular care is to be taken on frosty/cold days where ice accumulates on the mast and stay wires and then falls off in the early afternoon (or anytime). This is particularly dangerous as you cannot hear it coming!
