Meieriet Traditional Cache

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

Cachen er ved meieriet i Åmsosen, som er like over veien for cachen. Kan ikke legge den på selve meierieiendommen da det er mange leiligheter der idag. Meieriet ble tatt i bruk 2 januar, 1913. Bønder fra Nedre Vats, og Blikrabygda, Øvre Vats, kom med melk her, hver dag. De fleste kjørte med hest og kjerre, men noen måtte også gå med vannsele, Det var vanlig å bære 11 liter melk på hver side i vannselen.

Bøndene veide melken på meieriet, og fikk 5 øre literen for den. Etterpå ble melken tømt i store kar, som de rørte i med treskjeer, bredden på kara var ca 30 cm. De kokte opp melken for å skille bort fløten, etter det lagte de ulike oster av den. Melken og osten ble solgt til de lokale landhandlerene, og bl.a eksportert til bl.a Stavanger og Oslo. Ca et år før meieriet ble nedlagt, var prisen på melk, 23 øre.

I meieriet fyrte de med kull, som kom med fartøy til kaien i Åmsosen. 4-5 hester kjørte da kullet opp til kull-lageret på meieriet.

Den første meieribestyreren hette Råstad, etter han kom en fra Jæren, som vi dessverre ikke vet navnet på, den tredje var Lothe, og den siste meieribestyreren var Solveig Kleveland.

Samtidig som meieriet holdt til i 1 etasje, var det et slags "kommunehus" i 2 etasje. Der var det forsyningsnemd, bank, pengetrykkeri, trygdekontor, og lensmannen holdt også til her.

I 30-årene ble meieriet nedlagt, men fortsatt var det melkeutsalg i det rommet hvor "Gullklumpen" gullsmed, holder til. Nå ble det vanskeligere for bøndene, som måtte kjøre melken til Vikedal.

Meieriet i nyere tid

Nå er det Ottar Ohm som eier meieriet. I 1992 begynte Magnor og Geir Vårvik å restaurere den gamle meireribygningen. De ble ferdige i juni-93. Da var det klart til å brukes som hybler.

I første etasje har Kurt Ohm, begynt som gullsmed. og Geir Vårvik skal lage til krambu, og har oppussing av gamle møbler. Selv om meiereiet ble restaurert er det ikke gjort mange endringer fra slik det opprinnelig ble bygget. Men den gamle meieripipen mangler, den ble revet av bl. Olav Ohm, for ca 20 år siden da den begynte å bli skjev.

The cache is at the dairy in Åmsosen . The dairy was adopted January 2 , 1913. Farmers from Nedre Vats and Blikrabygda , Øvre Vats , came with milk here , every day. Most drove a horse and cart , but someone had to go with water harness, it was customary to carry 11 liters of milk on each side of the water seal.

Farmers weighed the milk at the dairy , and was 5 cents a gallon for it. Afterwards, the milk was poured into large vats , which they stirred in with a wooden spoon , the width of the caravan was about 30 cm . They boiled the milk to separate off the cream, after that they made various cheeses of the cream. The milk and cheese were sold to the local land dealers , and among others exported to, Stavanger and Oslo. About a year before the dairy was shut down , the price of milk, was 23 cents .

In the dairy they fired with coal, which came with vessels to the pier in Åmsosen . 4-5 horses drow the coal - up tu the coal store at the dairy.

The first dairy manager was Råstad , the next one came from Jæren , but unfortunately we do not know the name of him, the third was Lothe , and the last dairy manager was Solveig Kleveland .

While dairy was kept to the 1st floor , there was a sort of " council " in the 2nd floor . There was supply denominators , bank , money printing , insurance office , and the sheriff also held here.

In the 30s , the dairy closed down, but still there was milk outlets in the room where the " gold nuggets " jeweler was located. Now it became more difficult for the farmers, who had to drive the milk to Vikedal .

Dairy in recent times

Now it Ottar Ohm who own dairy. In 1992 Magnor and Geir Vårvik to restore the old diary building . They were finished in June -93 . When it was ready to be used as single rooms .

The ground floor has Kurt Ohm , started as a goldsmith . and Geir Vårvik to create a oldfashion store, and renovation of old furniture . Although runners owned was restored , it is not made ​​many changes from the way it was originally built.
