Mark your calendar for early November, 2013! Geocaching is rocketing into space once again. Astronaut Rick Mastracchio will deliver a Travel Bug® to the International Space Station. Mastracchio will be using the Travel Bug as an educational tool to help teach students around the world about geography and provide other educational lessons. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4:08 GMT on November 7 and we want you all to be there (at least in spirit). That means the launch is planned to liftoff at 5:08 a.m. in Berlin and November 6 at 8:08 p.m. in Los Angeles. That converts to a launch time for Wichita, Kansas at 10:08 p.m on November 6.
Groundspeak is offering a highly sought after souviner for those who attend a Geocaching in Space event on either November 6 or November 7.
Hey WEST siders! This one is for you! Lets meet in the parking lot of the Lake Afton Observatory for a Flash Mob.
The Observatory will be closed to the public at this time as they will be hosting a private event.
Thursday, November 7th.
The "Star Gazing" will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 6:45 p.m. Feel free to bring your own binoculars or telescope. We have been given permission to use the viewing ramp and our Lake Afton Observatory source states that Venus and a Cresent Moon should be visible at 7:00p.m.
