Intro

Please respect all headstones. A lot of work has gone into making sure they remain for generations to discover.

I'm attempting to place caches in as many of Decatur County cemeteries as I can. Take your time and enjoy yourself. You don't have to stop at every headstone, but, please, slow down and look around you. Grave markers can tell a story, or at the very least make you wonder what the story really is. I'd prefer my cemetery caches not be park and grabs.

History

Springhill was founded as a Presbyterian church in the early 1820's. The original name was New Zion after the Kentucky church they moved from. Along the west and north sides of the cemetery lie many of the pioneers of this county. Some of the headstones have been repaired or replaced. The original log church was built in 1824 by James McCracken, Adam and Andrew Rankin, James R. Patton, and William Anderson. All of these individuals are buried here. The current brick structure was built in 1892 at a cost of $16,000.
