Geocache Description:

6:38 pm to 8:08 pm
15129 SE McLoughlin Blvd
Milwaukie OR 97267

Come celebrate geocaching in space with us at this launch party. American astronaut Rick Mastracchio is going to the International Space Station, and is taking with him a special Travel Bug (TB5JJN1) to use as an educational tool. And: what a lucky guy! He gets to be the first official FTF on the ISS Geocache GC1BE91.

Everyone is invited to help celebrate this adventure and cheer him on. We will start at 6:38 pm and be around until 8:08 pm, which is the official launch time for PST (official launch is 11/7/2013 at 4:08 am in Kazakhstan). If there are no delays, we might be able to catch it online.

The International Space Station was first occupied on November 2, 2000 and has been continually occupied since then. At around 250 miles above the earth and 17,100 miles per hour, it orbits the earth 15.49 times per day. The ISS was intended to be a laboratory, observatory and factory in space. It was also planned to provide transportation, maintenance, and act as a staging base for possible future missions to the Moon, Mars and asteroids. In 2010, the ISS was given additional roles of serving commercial, diplomatic and educational purposes.

Attending this event, and logging the Attendance online (after first signing the log at the event) will earn you a special Souvenir in your online profile. And - well - if you are interested in a space launch as well as a geocacher, then we guess you are interested in collecting a souvenir. See you there!
