This cache is beside a bridge that overlooks a large basin of water in the river Ythan called the Hagberry Pot, its name comes from the Hagberry trees (also known as Bird Cherry) that grow beside it on the bank. The Hagberry Pot is associated with an infamouse legend. In 1644 Gight Castle came under seige from Covenanters, With fear of losing his treasure the Laird of Gight cast it into the Hagberry Pot (which was beleived to be bottomless.) When the seige ended the Laird wanted to reclaim his treasure, so he sent a diver down into the Pot to retreive it, when the diver resurfaced empty handed, claiming he had seen the Devil (the diel), who had told him the treasure was not to be retreived. The greedy Laird ordered the diver to go back down, the diver refused, the Laird tortured the man, until he finally said "I'd rather face the diel himself, than face the laird of Gight." The diver went down again, it is said that his lifeless body floated to the surface, quartered so that they could see the mans still beating heart.
