The Event starts at 4:08 AM! Yes 4:08 AM! We should all know what it feels like being up that early to get a geocache, just like Astornaut Rick Mastracchio. Although his launch isn't until 10:08 our time, let's be extreme about it. Our is a time is when no one should be up. His extreme is riding in a rocket into space when multiple varbales can affect anything that could lead to a life ending circumstance. Now, that 4:08 AM time doesn't seem so bad now does it!
Well don't worry about 4:08 AM time. This will be a two time event. If You can't make it to the 4:08 AM meeting, (thats fine, but counts you out for the first to find) you can also meet at the 10:08 PM time to still count the event as attended. We will take our picture at the site and then scatter.
Geocaching is rocketing into space once again. Astronaut Rick Mastracchio will deliver a Travel Bug® to the International Space Station. Mastracchio will be using the Travel Bug as an educational tool to help teach students around the world about geography and provide other educational lessons. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4:08 GMT on November 7 and we want you all to be there (at least in spirit). That means the launch is planned to liftoff at 5:08 a.m. in Berlin and November 6 at 8:08 p.m. in Los Angeles. (November 6th at 10:08pm in Kansas City)
Every geocacher who attends a Geocaching Event on November 6 or 7, 2013 will be awarded a “Geocaching in Space” souvenir. (*Quick note: As this is a real-deal rocket launch, it could be delayed. In this case they will issue the souvenir for attending an event on November 6 or 7, and for attending an event on the the actual launch date.)
