The Knock ("Knock" being Gaelic simply meaning "the hill") is a summit and spectacular viewpoint that sits in the Bathgate Hills approximately 1½ miles southeast of Torphichen and about the same northeast of Bathgate. The Knock summit is 1015 feet and there you can enjoy spectacular views of West Lothian. The hill was gifted to the people of Bathgate in memory of D.T. Sutherland the Provost of the town between 1881 and 1893, Mrs Isabella Dawson (or Sutherland) and their son R.D. Sutherland, Provost between 1914 and 1922. The Knock used to be the site of a coven for all the local witches and wizards in the area, at least up until the 17th century!
