Geocache Description:

Ahoy! Welcome to Anchors Away! The posted coordinates will bring you to the head of a very special monument near HCMS Carleton at Dow's Lake. The monument was unveiled on May 6, 1973 (Battle of Atlantic Day), by his Excellency the Governor General of Canada, Roland Michener. The Naval Reserve has existed in some form or another since 1914. Created as a result of World War I, the reserve began with only 1200 men. By the end of WWI over 6000 men had served. Known today as the Royal Canadian Primary Naval Reserve, NAVRES supplies all personnel to Canada's 12 Kingston Class Maritime Coastal Defence Vehicles, which are used for patrol, mine-sweeping, and bottom-inspection operations. The cache is hidden somewhere at the monument. Please take care to hide it carefully from view as this area is frequented by muggles year-round. Naval inspired SWAG is encouraged but not required. BYOP (just in case). The cache is quasi winter-friendly, however once the snow starts piling up a shovel will be required. Small prizes for the first three cachers to make the find. There is cheap parking across the street, however if you are daring, there is a place to stop with your 4-ways on within metres of the cache. Be careful of when you attempt this trick though as illegal parking is subject to a fine. This is lotusfire's first hide. :-) All ashore that's going ashore! CONGRATS GO TO CYCLINGEVERYWHERE FOR FTF!
