The Haunting of Kitty Hollow
The killing began on a full moon, less than a fortnight before All Hallows Eve. Rumors of sightings of strange creatures on the edge of the woods spread through the community. Many gave them no credence. Why should they? Nothing like this had ever happened before.
The first victims had gone out for dinner at a local eatery in the shadow of the woodland of Kitty Hollow Park. As they left the restaurant, they heard the sound of howling coming from the trees to the north.
"I think somebody's dog must of got loose from the dog park. Let's see if we can find him", he said.
"Are you sure? The sun has already gone down", she asked.
Unconcerned, he led his family into the darkening timberland to call out to the dog. As they entered, the trees seemed to close in around them. It was as if the woods had suddenly come alive. They realized their error when they heard the deep guttural growls. Only the child managed to escape, though when asked about what happened, she could not give voice to words.
Over the next several nights, rescue parties were organized to search for survivors and kill the evil creatures that have taken over the park. They searched each night, following a seldom used path that led them deeper and deeper into the wildwood. Each night a party went out and each night few, if any, returned. Those that did survive told horrifying accounts of their ordeal. It was not just one creature in these woods. There seemed to be countless numbers of them.
Night Three - The Curse of the Mummy
Terrified by the loss of yet another search group, the community vowed to send more searchers out until their friends and family had all been accounted for. The next team was organized and left at dusk on the third day. They traveled further down the path, following the trail of evidence that the previous nights' tragedies had left for them.
A strange eeriness came over them as they walked through the woods. Something wasn't quite right.
*Crunch*
"What was that?", said one of them.
*Crunch* *Crunch*
"I don't know. Shine that light down on the path."
Disgusted, they realized that the trees and the floor of the woods were crawling with large Scarab Beetles!
Onward they pressed, despite the regular crunching sounds underfoot and the occasional shock of a large beetle dropping on them from above. Suddenly, the scarab beetles all took flight. They were surrounded by the flying insects from all directions. They flew into them and crawled over them. After a moment they suddenly dispersed and skittered away.
That's when they came upon something completely unexpected. They could not believe what they were looking at. How did this Egyptian relic get to Kitty Hollow Park?
When they opened the sarcophagus a gust of wind blew through. The pharaoh's mummy attacked!
As your search begins, know that this area is inhabited by creatures both meek and savage. There will be slithery beings with neither arm nor leg, creatures of flight that would feast on your blood, and even plants that would attack you unexpectedly if you are not wary. This journey is not for the small of stature nor faint of heart for dangers await within these woods.
Travel between each location in the series is best done by bike in the grass along the greenway outside the South and West sides of the park but can be done by foot as well.
