Depending on which way you come this could either be a good place to stop for a rest or a mild inconvenience on the way to bigger and better things.
To me, the Waitakere Ranges is a big playground, and I find myself out here time and time again exploring new areas and revisiting familiar ones.
Every time I've walked past this tree on my way I've always thought it would be a good spot for a cache - there's not much of a view, but the big tree is pretty cool, and he seems to be well supported by a smaller mate who keeps him upright. After having found my 2000th cache in the company of greenblAt we placed this cache.
I contemplated hiding this one well above the ground but decided to play safety first and the cache can be found just off the track along one of the roots of the tree. The usual disclaimers about satellite coverage apply though if it helps you're looking for the big tree that is bigger than some of the other trees in the area (you'll know it when you see it).
There are plenty of ways to get to this one - the quickest would be from the car park at Lone Kauri Road, but bonus points* will be awarded to anyone who comes from further afield to get it.
