Geocache Description:

The Chaparral Rail Trail, spanning five counties northeast of Dallas, has been developing since it was first envisioned in 1995. The trail begins in Farmersville, where its first 2.5 miles are paved. The trailhead is located a block from downtown at the Onion Shed, a restored building from the 1930s that was once used as a loading dock for the onion industry.

Groups have been working to improve the Southern Part of this Trail from the trailhead in Farmersville to the southern city limits in Pecan Gap. There is more work to be done, but this 37 mile section of the trail is now open.

The first 5 miles are paved with asphalt, concrete, or decomposed granite, and bridges are decked. No railings are in place. Great for bicycling.

The first caches on this trail were placed on 1/28/07 and others contributed over the years. Many have traveled here. It was my good fortune to find out about a recently developed part of the trail that had no caches. DougShep and I fixed that.

We were trying to think of a name for this one. I said, “I want to name it Cedar something.” He said, “Well then name it that!” No hint, I think once you get close enough, you should be able to spot it easily. There were some thorns around, cows eating and we heard someone doing target practice in the distance. Small prize I think for FTF!!
