Geocache Description:

This under water traditional cache can only be reached by a scuba diver with Advanced Open Water certification. It is well worth the extra effort though. Enjoy!

Introduction
We are divers in Tenerife and this is the first geocache we have ever logged. It all came about after we received an email from a British travel journalist a couple of weeks ago. She had been set the challenge by her editor to plant the lowest geocache in Tenerife for a story about geocaching on the island, and wanted to know if we would we be interested in helping her / becoming the maintainers of the cache? It was the first time we'd ever even heard of geocaching, so we did some research, thought it all looked rather fun and agreed to help. We had heard there might already be an under water cache off the island, though at no more than 10 metres, so to make sure it was "the lowest" - yet still accessible to a good amount of people - we decided to plant it at 30 metres in an area just off one of our favourite dive spots (and one commonly known by divers on the island) - Palm Mar Cave. It is just a 10 - 15 minute boat ride from the shores of Playa de las Americas (we went from Compostela Beach) and will require an Advanced Open Water certification to reach.

Cueva de Palm Mar or Palm Mar Cave
A highlight for advanced divers only 10 minutes from Los Christianos and las Galletas. Also referred to as La Cueva de las Morenas (Moray Cave) - due to the several different species of moray eel found here, this spot has incredible visibility, deep diving (depth average - 25 - 32 metres), some ferocious looking predators and a few friendly-looking ones too including a large amount of rays. Of course, it also has a rather mysterious cave with a lengthy interior tunnel. A couple of divers have died exploring this cave system and there is a memorial cross outsid the cave. With this in mind, take a tentative look inside the mouth of the cave but don't go into the tunnel.

Cache description
After anchoring at the co-ordinates, follow the anchor line down and see if you can spot anything unusual in the area...Remember - the cache is located at a depth of 30 metres so you will also need to be at 30 metres to find it. Inside, there is a board and pen to log your find, and also an underwater camera. *Please feel free to take a picture of yourself and the cache which we will upload sporadically.

*Please only take a picture if you are happy for it to be uploaded to an external site.
