At the beginning of January, 2013, a devastating bushfire swept through this area. The effects are still clearly visible but the resiliance of people is shown by the way the houses and area are being rebuilt. The original cache near this location was completely destroyed except for half of a Lego block. Now the cache has returned and I include the original description.
Sunset Beach is about half way between Hobart and Port Arthur and makes a very good spot to stop, stretch the legs and take in some very pleasant scenery with views across the water to Mt Wellington. It’s great for a walk but probably not for swimming as the very gentle slope means you would have a long walk out to get any depth of water.
At the end of the day it is common to see people gathering to take the perfect photograph of the setting sun. This depends not only on the right atmospheric conditions but also on the tide as the best reflections and effects are, apparently, to be had at a very low tide when the sand flats extend well out and the ripples on the sand give interesting variations in the colours.
If you get a good photo of the sunset here please attach it to your log. If not perhaps you could attach another favourite sunset picture.
