Geocaching is returning to Space!!! This event will begin at 9:30 pm at the posted coordinates. This event is being setup to view the launch of Astronaut Rick Mastracchio (geocacher AstroRM) when he launches to the International Space Station Geocache GC1BE91 on Expedition 38. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4:08 GMT on November 7 (which converts to 10:08 pm Crestview, Florida time on November 6th). He will be taking along Travel Bug TB5JJN1 with him and using it as an educational tool. Rick will live aboard the ISS for 6 months. He plans to use the Travel Bug as a tool to teach students on Earth, in his home state of Connecticut, about geography and science. He’ll also earn the Solar System’s most elusive smiley and find the Internation Space Station geocache.
Attend this event and earn a souvenir from Geocaching.com!! Wear NASA or space related clothing and win a prize-Space suits and NASA tshirts highly encouraged! This is a late geocaching event for a weeknight but we are hoping for a good crowd-we had no control over the time of the lift off
.
*Quick note: As this is a real-deal rocket launch, it could be delayed. In this case we’ll still hold the event as planned, and if possible/feasible will wait for the actual launch. Regardless, all attendees will receive the icon for attending.
