During the final great seige at Pontefract Castle one man was chosen to head out and seek help from any remaining Royalist soldiers he could find.
So on one cold early October morning my ancester rode out as he approached Wentbridge and the great north road he spied what looked like a whole garrison of parliamentry troops marching out of the small village.
He doubled back and took his horse and himself into a hidden tunnel and waited quietly for the troops to pass.
As they crossed the bridge he realised that it was none other than Oliver Cromwell himself who had come to take charge of the seige and flush the Royalists out.
My ancester also now realised the futility of his mission Pontefract stood alone and the King was to be executed within months.
He began his search but his pleas fell on deaf ears none would help.
In January of the next year the king was slain and his head paraded around the country for all to see until one day it mysteriously disapeared...........
Have fun looking for the cache and dont go alone.......
