Geocache Description:

The hike, hunt, and return to listed Parking coordinates should take less than 40 minutes, and is approximately a 1/2 mile hike round-trip.  There is rough terrain and this is not wheelchair-friendly, sorry.  Please take a bag with you to remove any smaller items or trash that would be considered "CITO" (Cache-In, Trash-Out).

Tarabusi Creek is a stream which is part of the Rouge River Watershed and is located here in Wayne County, MI at an elevation of 600 ft above Sea Level.  It can be seen on the one of the USGS topographic maps of Redford, MI. Tarabusi Creek, Michigan, shown below:

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) monitors the quantity and quality of surface and ground waters throughout the nation. The USGS organizes watersheds or drainage basins of the United States into a hydrologic system that divides and subdivides the United States into successively smaller watersheds. These levels of subdivision, used for organization of hydrologic data, are called "hydrologic units." The hydrologic units outlined in the National Atlas represent natural and manmade watersheds.

The Rouge River Watershed is a hydrologic unit consisting of 48 communities and three counties.  It has four main river courses and many tributaries, which eventually drain into the Detroit River and then to Lake Erie.

The Tarabusi Creek and Bell Branch "sub-watershed" of the Rouge River Watershed is located in portions of the Cities of Livonia, Farmington Hills, Farmington, and Novi, as well as Redford and Northville Townships.  Although most of the Bell Branch and Tarabusi Creeks flow through residential areas which are not open to the public, over 12 miles of the river flow through recreational areas.

Ducks in the creek

Within the Bell Branch and Tarabusi Creek subwatershed, there are over 1000 acres of recreational areas consisting of 16 public (county, city, or township) parks and 7 golf courses.  These recreational areas provide many recreational opportunities including fishing, wading, picnicking, golfing, walking, biking, and exploring.

Actions by volunteer groups that improve water quality and stream habitat could result in improved public use and enjoyment of these public recreational areas as the entire Rouge River Watershed suffers from pollution by various sources, such as combined sewer overflow (CSO), nonpoint source pollution (NPS), illicit connections to drainage facilities, illegal dumping, surface runoff, sediments, and contaminated sites.

Efforts have been made over the last couple of decades to clean up the watershed and those efforts continue to improve the environment for both the residents and wildlife that call the watershed area home, as well as the visual beauty that the area contains.

The cache itself is a larger container to start-off with.
PLEASE hide equal-to or better-than how you found it and TRADE equal or trade-up.

If you find any items to CITO, please take these items with you
(if possible)
so that it will continue to protect the watershed and natural area here.

Thank you.
