I was disappointed to see Jones Line - Brant's Tree (GC1W9RZ) archived as I am such a history fanatic. I thought it would be cool to revive this location, and a little bit to it. The posted coordinates bring you to Brant's Tree. According to lylefair, Brant's Tree is a magnificent white oak that first sprouted from the ground in 1725 (Burlington's Honour List of Trees). Joseph Brant set out from this tree to pace off his land grant, the area which was to become the core of the city of Burlington. Brant's Tree or a point on the nearby shore is the base for Jones Line, which is a survey line running fifty miles north-west from Burlington to Arthur. It was laid out by Augustus Jones, a deputy-surveyor of Upper Canada, in 1792.
Stage 1: You will come to a black plaque on Brant's Tree. This plaque contains three years. Take the first year that appears, and subtract it from the second year that appears. This number will be X.
For Stage 2 North coords: Take X and multiply it by 55, divide by 1000 and add to posted N coords.
For Stage 2 West coords: Take X and multiply it by 141, divide by 1000 and subtract from posted W coords.
Stage 2 will bring you to another plaque. This plaque contains a number of years. Take the first year that appears, and subtract it from the second year that appears. This number will be Y.
To determine the FINAL cache coordinates:
Take Y and multiply it by 49, divide by 1000 and add to Stage 2 N coords. Take Y and multiply it by 39, divide by 1000 and add to Stage 2 W coords.
Please take your time in reading the plaques at the first two stages. This is what the cache is all about.
Congratulations to Zavod on the FTF!
