Geocache Description:

What lies within the ancient ruins? Your feet will not need to leave the creek bed at any time in order to find this cache. Please read the notes at the bottom of this listing.

Right of Way Notes: I've walked this creek 8 times now and on one occasion I met a homeowner and had a nice conversation with him. I asked if this was private property and he said that it wasn't. I was recently contacted by another cacher who met a different homeowner that claimed it was in fact private property. I checked the property maps, and there are some sections where the property lines meet in the center of the creek - I consider this a grey area, the de-facto property lines are quite obvious. My own personal 'sniff test' tells me that it smells OK to be here; I don't feel like I am trespassing while out walking the creek. In many other places there is an implicit right of way for areas like these, and I'd like to think that right of way philosophy applies here as well. However, your personal caching ethos may be different than mine, so please keep this in mind if you decide to make the trek through the jungle. Don't go outside of your comfort zone, and if you feel uncomfortable in any way, don't go in, or if you have already started, simply turn around and leave. It's only a cache, no big deal, there are plenty of other ones to find. Stay in the creek bed, be respectful of the fact that there are private homes here, don't go in large groups, don't be too noisy, don't disturb the local flora & fauna, don't climb up the creek banks, and try to pick up any trash you find on the way. As a matter of fact, bringing a trash bag with you, and keeping it visible, might not be a bad idea in general, it provides a good back story as to why you are here, and if you actually use it, the creek will be better off for it.

Safety Notes: This cache may not be available during the rainy season. This cache should not be attempted at night, nor should you start it with less than 2 hours of daylight remaining. There have been reports of 'undesirable' characters lurking in the jungle after dark, and it's best to avoid them entirely.

Do not attempt if it is raining or there is a chance of rain. Or even if the water is more than ankle deep at the starting point for that matter. A local homeowner that I spoke with told me that the currents in the creek can get quite strong and dangerous during a rain storm, and that water can appear suddenly from rain in the mountains, even if it's not raining locally.

Congratulations to mjp303 for FTF.
