Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the NFL Series. Cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. You must solve the puzzle below to get the true coordinates.

  • William Perry, the defensive tackle on the 1985 championship team was nicknamed “The Refrigerator”.
  • The Chicago Bears were founded by Augustus E. Staley as the Decatur Staleys in 1920; Staley sold the team to George Halas for $100, who moved the team the following year and renamed them the Chicago Staleys. The team adopted the name Chicago Bears in 1922 as a tribute to the Cubs, who allowed Halas’ team to play at Wrigley Field.
  • Walter Payton, also known as “Sweetness”, wore number 34.
  • Linebacker Dick Butkus became a Chicago Bear in 1965 and stayed with the team until his retirement in 1973.
  • In 1940, the Chicago Bears defeated the Washington Redskins 73-0, a record that still stands in the NFL as the largest margin of victory over an opponent.
  • The song “The Super Bowl Shuffle” was videotaped the day after a devastating loss to the Miami Dolphins. That loss would be their only one on the road to become the 1985 Super Bowl Champions.
  • Eight time pro-bowler Brian Urlacher spent all 13 years of his football career playing for the Chicago Bears until he retired at the end of the 2012 season. Urlacher, who wore number 54, won the NFL Rookie of the Year Award in 2000 and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2005.
  • The oldest rivalry in the NFL belongs to the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. Soldier Field and Lambeau Field are a mere 184 miles apart, as the crow flies.
  •  “Iron Mike” Ditka became the 9th coach of the Chicago Bears.
