In November, Astronaut Rick Mastracchio and his Travel Bug TB5JJN1 will be rocketing straight to the International Space Station. The mission is currently scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan at 4:08 GMT on November 7 (or 11pm EST on November 6th ) and will be lifting off from Kazakhstan. Mr. Mastracchio will be living on the International Space Station for 6 months where he will be using this fantastic opportunity to teach students from his home state of Connecticut about geography and science. Not only that, but he will be the First-To-Find for the International Space Station geocache.placed by Richard Garriott.
Rick will live aboard the ISS for 6 months. He plans to use the Travel Bug as a tool to teach students on Earth, in his home state of Connecticut, about geography and science.
Every geocacher who attends a Geocaching Event on November 6 or 7, 2013 will be awarded a “Geocaching in Space” souvenir.
Quick note: As this is a real-deal rocket launch, it could be delayed. In this case we’ll issue the souvenir for attending an event on November 6 or 7, and for attending an event on the the actual launch date.
