Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE CAN ONLY BE COMPLETED DURING THE HOURS OF DARKNESS

This is the first cache we have done as a Joint cache with our fellow cachers Matthew and Julie.

After looking at local caches for a night time cache we decided there was a lack of them so we set about putting one together

For this cache you will have to visit the entrance to Flaybrick Memorial Gardens. This is where

The Co ordinates are for; once there you will have to solve a simple puzzle to get the co ordinates

for the start of the trail.

The trail is laid out using what are known as fire tacks and these can be spotted using a good torch, we have placed them about ten to twelve feet from the ground and once you arrive at one you will need to spend a little time looking for the next one. The best way to do this is to turn through 360 degrees whilst searching with the beam from your torch.

The trail will probably take 20 mins to follow if done correctly and once at ground zero this will be indicated by a multi trunked birch tree with several pairs of eyes looking at you made with fire tacks on each trunk.

Once you have found the cache please replace carefully as in daylight what looks like its hidden might not be.

Now the fun really starts the trail is only one way, you’re in the middle of somewhere in the dark can you find your way back.

When placed the cache contains all sorts of Halloween goodies for the junior cachers a pencil, log book and a FTF certificate.

We thought long and hard about the difficulty ratings for this one and have set them they way we have taking into account the fact that this can only be done at night, and as such makes everything that much harder if it needs to be raised or lowered could people please give us some feedback.

Please park in the lay by on Boundary Road even if the car park gates are open as the gates are meant to be locked at 1700 and could be locked with your car on the wrong side.

Geocaching can be dangerous please take care when caching in the dark and please inform someone of where you are going and when you are expected home again. The CO can’t be held responsible for and injury or loss incurred whilst attempting this cache.

Trail Head can be found at N53 23.(C+A)(B-D+A)D

  1. Find the date on the gate post at the entrance to Flaybrick Memorial Gardens this is ABCD, the first digit is A, the second is B and so on
  2. Then count the number of sharp spikes on all the gates and the number of granite blocks found at the base of the gate posts (don’t forget to count both sides).  E is the number of sharp spikes times the number of granite blocks less C
