The Tiptonville Cemetery is on private property and can easily be seen about 200 yards south of this cache site.
Tiptonville, located on the Santa Fe Trail, was at the center of the old Junta de Los Rios land grant.
This settlement came into being in 1849 when William B. Tipton,an employee of Sam Watrous, married Sam's daughter. Watrous had the merchantile store southeast of here at La Junta, later named Watrous.. Tipton established residence near the cemetery and later platted the Tiptonville townsite here.
Post office was here from 1876 to 1908. Tipton descendants are still in the area.
This cache is placed as a tribute to those pioneers, ranch workers and settlers who contributed to the area and who are buried here. We solicite your support as a volunteer cacher to place a "Spirit" cache at or near a cemetery of your choosing.
