Geocache Description:

The lonely site of Lake Meran belies the fact the school building is still in use as an institution of learning.

This is the site of Lake Meran school, No. 3564, from 1919 to 1978, located on land donated by William Ritchie. The flagpole remains.

The marker stone tells you all that but not that the school building is still in use. Soon after its closure the school building was removed nearly 30 kilometres south to Boort High School where it has variously done duty as an agricultural studies classroom and a music room. It must be indestructible as it was one of the few structures to survive the destruction of the old secondary college and its replacement by the spanking new Boort District School in 2011-12!

There was an earlier Lake Meran School. The Bendigo Advertiser describes a visit to the district by the Victorian premier in 1915 when the school was located by the lake's edge.
