Europe Square, while being a comparatively modern development in the city, is an important centre of Moscow and a symbol of Russia's European identity.

Established in 2002 after an announcement the preceding year, Europe Square in Moscow celebrates the entirety of the European continent. The most impressive part of the square is arguably the "Abduction of Europa" installation, which consists of a fountain and metal sculptures giving and abstract depiction of the Greek myth.
In the square near Kiev Station, visitors will also see 48 flags from the countries of Europe, symbolising solidarity with the other states. At night, the square, and especially the fountains, illuminate with colourful light, creating a dazzling display for passers-by. The area surrounding the square also abounds with hotels, cafes and restaurants, making it a favourite stopping-off place in Moscow.
