An old military road once crossed here.
Now only a placed marker does appear,
To remind us of roads from long ago.
Of great importance as our history shows.
Federal supplies were carried on this route,
Headed to Fort Gibson, headed south.
Supplies you see were a significant source.
Needed by Confederate & Union force.
Both sides had a similar goal,
The Indian Territory they wanted to control.
5 miles from here two battles raged,
At Cabin Creek they did engage.
Confederate and Union, for supplies they fought.
Through historical battles the Civil War was wrought.
The point of this marker I hope you find.
To take you back to a different time.
There is also a virtual cache (GCFDCD) actually located at the Cabin Creek site that was placed back in 2003(not placed by me). So you may want to stop by and check that one out too! :-)
