Malhada do Rei é uma pequena aldeia com marcas de um longo passado, situada a 4 km da sede de freguesia, Unhais-o-Velho e a 5 km de Vidual de Cima. Encontra-se 25 km a norte da sede de concelho, Pampilhosa da Serra, e ao cimo da Barragem de Santa Luzia, o que lhe dá uma beleza incomparável como todas as aldeias a norte do concelho.
Diz a história que esta aldeia começou a formar-se por meia dúzia de agricultores que construíram as suas casas bem juntinhas umas às outras para se abrigarem dos invernos rigorosos que se faziam sentir naquela época.
Poucos anos após, diz a lenda que andava um rei a passear pelos montes e vales da região, um certo dia passou por esta aldeia que achou muito bonita, como algo lhe tinha chamado a atenção, o rei quis logo ficar por lá uma noite para conhecer melhor o lugar e também as pessoas que lá viviam.
Quando começou a descer para a aldeia encontrou duas mulheres que estavam a malhar o trigo numa grande eira e perguntou-lhes o que elas estavam a ali a fazer, as mulheres responderam “Malhamos o trigo senhor para fazer o pão!”.
Foi então, quando o rei se lembrou de perguntar qual era o nome da aldeia? As mulheres responderam-lhe “ senhor, esta é a aldeia dos agricultores”.
O rei teve a ideia de batizar esta aldeia com o nome de Malhada do Rei, Malhada por ser uma aldeia de agricultores, e por ver as duas mulheres a malhar o trigo, e Rei, por ter passado por lá e ter gostado tanto do lugar e das pessoas que lá viviam.
E daí em diante até à presente data, esta bonita terra serrana passou a ser chamada de Malhada do Rei.

Malhada do Rei is a small village with a long history of brands , located 4 km from the parish council , Unhais - o-Velho and 5 km from Vidual Angle . It lies 25 km north of the county seat , Pampilhosa da Serra , among hills , mountains ( Rock and Picoto ) and the top of the dam of Santa Luzia , which gives you an incomparable beauty as almost all the villages north of the county .
The story goes that this village began to be formed by a handful of farmers who built their homes close together to each other for shelter from harsh winters that were felt at the time.
Few years after , legend has it that a king rode to stroll through hills and valleys , one day passed through this village we found very beautiful, like something had drawn attention , the king would soon come by one night to learn more the place and also the people who lived here.
When he began to descend to the village found two women who were threshing wheat in a large threshing floor and asked them what they were doing there , the women responded " Sir Malhamos wheat to make bread " .
It was then when the king remembered to ask what was the name of the village ? The women answered him " Sir , this is the village of farmers ."
It was then when the King had the idea to baptize this village with the name of Malhada do Rei , Malhada being a village of farmers , and to see the two women threshing wheat, and King, for having gone there and have enjoyed both the place and the people who lived there .
And then on to the present day , this beautiful mountainous land came to be called the King of Pied.
Atualmente a Malhada do Rei é uma aldeia com as mesmas condições das outras aldeias do concelho. Possui uma coletividade aberta todos os dias, táxi, capela, igreja, campo de futebol, parque de merendas com excelentes condições, turismo de natureza, entre outros serviços.
A aldeia de Malhada do rei possui maravilhosas paisagens durante todo o ano, o verde envolvente do verão, o puro branco de inverno e o colorido da primavera, tornam as paisagens únicas.
A aldeia de Malhada do rei tem um curso de água isento de poluição, onde recentemente se construiu uma praia fluvial, que possui com certeza das melhores águas do concelho e talvez mesmo de Portugal.
