Located on the corner of Khartoum and Waterloo Roads (the site of a former orchard), The Shack was built from corrugated iron and timber. It had a partial roof, which housed the entrance and projection booth, but most of the seating was out in the open so heating was provided by 44 gallon drums filled with paper, wood, coke and coal, when it was required. Wood chopping contests were also a regular feature during the intervals.
With the opening of the nearby North Ryde Drive-In (GC4R7B3 Get to the Gate and Drive In) in 1956 and the introduction of television, the Khartoum Theatre did not survive the changing times and played its last film in 1966.
