 Situated merely an hour's travel from Fairbanks, Alaska, the White Mountains National Recreation Area delivers spectacular landscapes, relaxing isolation, and exceptional choices for recreation all year-round.
During the summer time months, people trekking the White Mountains can also try their hand at goldpanning, fishing, hiking and camping under the land of the midnight sun. Nome Creek Road supplies entry to 2 campgrounds, the Mount Prindle and Ophir Creek Campgrounds and the Quartz Creek Trails, a gold-panning spot along with a starting point for rafting outings on Beaver Creek Scenic River.
In the winter months, people can enter the park by skis, snowshoes, dog team and snowmachine to experience the 12 cabins that are for public-use, not to mention the 250 miles of maintained trails that render the White Mountains among one of Interior Alaska's most recognized winter time attractions.
This area is in my book one of the most beautiful and scenic areas in the interior and when visiting the area of late I decided that supplying some additional caches in the area can only bring me back more often.
This cache is I hope a prelude to many more caches I would like to set in the area. Below is a map of the area courtesy of the Bureau of Land Management Nome Creek Valley. If you would like to see more caches in this area please shoot me an email.
This cache should be available year around. For access in the winter you may have to use alternate transportation like dog sled, snow shoes, skiis, or may use snowmachine. Not sure at this point how far road maintenance goes down but will surely find out this winter.
Cache container is large enough for small items and log and golf pencil. Original contents are log, pencil, AKTrekster pathtag and nifty FTF prize.
