A Nightmare on Elm Street

This is the second cache in a series of caches based on classic horror movies. I have been a horror movie fan ever since I was a kid and thought this would be a fun series to put out. While the movies are violent, the descriptions will not include any descriptions of that violence. The puzzle and the actual hide for each cache in the series will be slightly different. The puzzles are designed so that if you have seen the movies they should be very easy to solve. If you have not seen them, they are still solvable, but you will likely need to do some research to get to the answer.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) – Despite Halloween being the first in this series, A Nightmare on Elm Street was always my personal favorite horror movie franchise. The original movie revolves around a group of teenage friends who are having nightmares. Each night they dream about a horribly burned man in a hat and dirty red and green sweater with razors on his right hand. They later learn this man is Freddy Krueger, a local legend who killed dozens of children. When he was freed on a legal technicality, they took the law into their own hands burning him alive. These teenagers slowly learn these are more than dreams, as Freddy murders them one by one in their dreams.
Like most slashers, A Nightmare on Elm Street has a final girl (Nancy Thompson). However in most horror movies the final girl is portrayed as weak and unassuming. She survives the movie by hiding, running, and a little luck (see Halloween and most of the Friday the 13th movies). However Nancy is determined, she investigates, she seeks out her advisory – leading multiple attacks on Freddy in the dream world (in the original movie and in the sequels).
Besides Freddy himself – the movie has several trademark images and scenarios. The iconic 1428 Elm Street House, Freddy’s one line jokes, the elaborate death scenes, turning people’s fears against them, strong female characters, etc. Robert Englund was cast by Wes Craven to play the role of the now iconic Freddy Krueger. Until 2010 when Jackie Earle Haley took over the role in the remake, Englund had been the only actor to protray the serial killer.
A Nightmare on Elm Street spawned 7 sequels and a remake (total of 9 films) and a television series. As the series went on, the film’s villain (Freddy Krueger) becomes more comedian than boogey man. However the original movie to this day remains one of the scariest movies ever made (in my humble opinion). New Line Cinema (who produced and released the series) is often known as “the house that Freddy built.” Ironically they were able to make the movie because every other studio turned Wes Craven (writer/director for Elm Street 1) down. In total the franchise has made $457,001,847 worldwide, making it the second highest grossing horror movie franchise in history (behind Friday the 13th). In recognition of the box office success of Elm Street and Friday the 13th, the movie Freddy vs Jason was released pitting the villains from the two franchises against one another. The encounter made $82,622,655 domestically and $32,286,175 in the foreign market, making it domestically the highest grossing film from both franchises.
