Wherigo adventures use a set of programmed instructions called a cartridge. The cartridge is run by an application software in a GPS-enabled device. Colorago, Oregon and Nuvi 500 made by Garmin, most brands of Pocket PCs, smartphones - both Android and iPhone, and tablet computers can be used if they are equipped to receive GPS signals. For Apple devices visit iTunes to get the Wherigo application. For Android you visit the Google store to get WhereYouGo and anything else try the WherigoPlayer. There is no charge for any of these application programs or for any of the cartridges. Once you have a player installed in your device, download the Riverbank Discovery Centre cartridge. We have tested the Riverbank cartridge extensively on an Android tablet called Nexus 7. You don't need to use any cellular network or data on your smartphone or tablet just make sure that the GPS is turned ON.
The paths at the Riverbank Discovery Centre are available all year but if there is deep snow the cache may be difficult to get to even though it should be well above the snow. It's nicest here in spring, summer and early fall when the ponds attract geese, ducks and shorebirds and the native grasses attract songbirds. The tour and the cache provide a walk of under two kilometres and can be completed in an hour or less.
Let us know in your log what kind of device worked for you. If you have difficulty running the cartridge, contact us and we'll try to help. We hope you have fun with the new game in town - Brandon's first Wherigo.
