Geocache Description:

Exeter Ship Canal is one of the oldest artificial waterways in the country and was built in the 1560s to bypass several weirs that blocked access to Exeter Quay from the English Channel.

The canal was deepened and lengthened throughout its working life and trade only started to decline with the coming of the railways. The last commercial use of Exeter Canal took place in 1972 and it has only been used recreationally since then.

This cache is not accessible on foot, you will need some sort of boat unless you can walk on water. If you do not have your own equipment you can hire it from several locations on Exeter Quay. With the correct equipment this is an easy cache to retrieve and is suitable for family groups. Please take care when opening the container to avoid spilling the contents in to the canal.

You are now looking for a magnetic 35mm film pot. Thanks to Exeter City Council for giving permission to site a cache here.

Congratulations to Polkygoblin for FTF
