I really like this area for an hour of easy paddling. With the slough and the lake it's got some pretty good variety. It's safe water (in that you're never very far from shore, and boat speeds are limited inside the buoys).
Unfortunately, as the folks living in the expensive houses along this section of Lake Washington clearly know, it does have one big problem: It is noisy; very noisy!
I have paddled here more than three dozen times. It's only three miles from my house, has easy and free access at the Sweylocken ramp, and the water is never very rough. I have been out in every month of the year, at least once.
But there have been several times when I have worn ear plugs to cover the freeway noise. Other times I just listen to music (loud music).
If you are seeking a perfectly peaceful paddling experience, this may not do it for you. But if you just want to get out on the water for a little fun exercise, I recommend it. It is especially nice right about sunset, when the water gets all "sparkly"!
