Because the church is trying to protect the cemetery from dog walkers, etc. There is no need to enter the cemetery.
The church is a former Wesleyan Methodist Church. It changed to a United Church of Canada in 1925 when the Methodist church merged with the the Congregational Union of Ontario & Quebec, the Presbyterian Church, and the Association of Local Union Churches.
The dated stone has this church built in 1864.
