ACE Cache #2 Jackson County Fairgrounds
This is an easy park and grab. Be aware of muggles, this is a busy place. I drove round and round looking for the right spot to place a cache. The fairgrounds is rich with thousands of possible hiding places, but this one had to meet the criteria for the ACE Series. I finally parked my car hoping to spot something at a slower pace. No sooner had my car door shut, I found my spot. Many thanks go to the fairgrounds manager (L) for giving permission for this cache. I spotted her cleaning up the parking lot today as I swung around the building to place the cache. Give her a thumbs up and a smile if you see her, she might not know what for but she’ll still smile back.
This cache is #2 of a series I am working on. As a new cacher I have been scouting locations to place some caches. During a conversation with a friend of mine (DH), where I was explaining the activity of geocaching and asking for permission to place caches on some of his property lines, I realized I was describing an activity and asking permission to conduct that activity on his lands, when it was an activity he could not participate in very well. You see, my friend is in a wheel chair and although he gets around very well, everywhere he needs to, stopping the van on a roadside and crossing a ditch, or hiking into the timber to look for a cache is not very possible for him. So I gained the inspiration right then, to place a series of geocaches in the Jackson County, Iowa area that were as challenging and enjoyable as any other geocache but are specifically designed to accommodate a wheelchair and ramp-van access. With as much inspiration as I had, I discovered I had as many roadblocks. Thankfully, iowaPete from IGO was hosting a “How to place a cache” event. I relayed my story and asked for suggestions from the group, who were all much more experienced cachers, and received an overwhelming number of great ideas and support. So here it begins, the purpose of this cache and those in the “ACE Series” (Accessible Caches for Everyone) is to create caches that are fun, and challenging, and accessible to everyone. Wish me luck and post any comments or suggestions you might have, as well as all your pictures.
Thanks, A1BOB66
