Halloween Horror - Arachnophobia
Arachnophobia is a 1990 American comedy horror film directed by Frank Marshall, starring Jeff Daniels and John Goodman. It is about deadly spiders infesting a small California town, with the title referring to the "fear of spiders". It was the very first film released by Hollywood Pictures.
A group of scientists travel to the Amazon with the hopes of discovering a new species of insect. While there they identify a new species of spider which carries a powerful and deadly venom. The spider is captured and chloroformed for research. Another spider hitches a ride with one of the scientists, and kills him overnight with a bite. The death is blamed on a fever, and his body is brought back to the US along with the spider inside of it.
Once back home in the small town, the spider breeds with a domestic house spider and eventually creates a giant colony of deadly spiders complete with a queen. Rather fitting, of course, that the spider colony would develop in the basement and barn of Ross Jennings, a family physician who has a fear of spiders...
