Geocache Description:

You are seeking a short two stage multi cache that begins at the grave marker of Winfield Scott, a Veteran of both the Mexican War and the Civil War.

Winfield Scott served as a Private with the 3rd Regiment Dragoons. The Mexican War, also known as the Mexican-American War, the U.S.–Mexican War, the Invasion of Mexico, the U.S. Intervention, "The War of Irrelevants" , or the United States War Against Mexico, was an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848 in the wake of the 1845 U.S. annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory despite the 1836 Texas Revolution. The 3rd Regiment Dragoons fought in the battle for Mexico City.

When war came again, this time the Civil War, Winfield Scott enlisted as a Private in Tarrant’s Battery of the 55 Alabama Light Artillery.

Tarrant's Battery was formed at Pollard, Alabama, in June, 1863, and remained there for several months. It joined the Army of Tennessee at Dalton and served in W.C. Preston's and D. Truehart's Battalion of Artillery. The company saw action at Resaca, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, and Atlanta, then moved with Hood into Tennessee. In the fight at Nashville it lost most of its men and horses, and all of its guns. Transferred to the District of the Gulf, it served as infantry defending Fort Blakely, and there surrendered. The battery was commanded by Captain Edward Tarrant.

To locate the final, gather information from his grave marker.
