Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to Mt. Vernon Cemetery. No night caching and please be respectful while in the area. You’ll be looking for a matchstick container in a typical spot on the edge of the cemetery away from the grave sites.

I never knew this cemetery existed until I saw it on a topo map. Finding it is probably more difficult than finding the cache once you get there. It’s on a road that’s now a dead end. Just past Dr. Ted’s Musical Marvels, you’ll see a driveway on the right. That’s the driveway you need. It’ll look like you’re heading toward someone’s home…and you are…but the drive continues up the hill between the garage and the house to a parking spot at the front of the cemetery.

The cemetery has a mailbox at the front of the cemetery. Open it and you’ll find a visitor’s log to sign. Feel free to log your presence here, as well as on the cache log.

You’ll see some very old, very unique grave stones here. For example, there’s a fenced area with grave stones in German. There are also several Hindostan whetstone grave markers, such as this one:

I also saw several markers for veterans. There were a couple of markers for veterans of the Mexican War. There are also a couple of markers for veterans of the Civil War, such as this one:

As you leave the cache site and head back to the entrance, be sure to look up and take in the beautiful panoramic view to the south. BYOP and enjoy this unique cemetery!
