LBB has been in existence since November 1937, when it opened as South Plains Airport. In September 1942, it became South Plains Flying School. In 1947 it was named Lubbock International Airport. In 2004, it was renamed after a former Texas governor, Preston E. Smith, who is an alumnus of Texas Tech University, which is located in Lubbock.
It lies five miles north of Lubbock and in 2012 served 562,000 passengers and has one terminal which houses nine gates. On the three runways, three airlines fly their planes with the most common destination being Dallas-Love Field, home to Southwest Airlines.
One of the most enviable facts about this airport is its short wait time. From the time someone enters the airport, goes to the ticket counter, and then gets to their gate takes about ten minutes. FlyingPig85 wishes all her airport experiences were this quick.
You will need to bring a pen, as the cache is small and does not have one.
Congrats to GeoChef74 on the FTF!
