OKC has been in existence since before WWII when it was a training facility for the USAAF. At that time, it was known as Will Rogers Field, named after the comedian and legendary cowboy, Will Rogers, who ironically, died in an airplane crash in 1935. Later, it became known as Will Rogers World Airport
It lies 6 miles from downtown Oklahoma City, OK and in 2012 served 3.68 million passengers. There is one terminal which houses 17 gates.
It is the only airport in existence to use the word “World” in its name and is the only one that makes no reference at all to the city in which it’s located. The fact that it is named a “world” airport is odd, because it serves no international destinations.
On the four runways, six airlines fly their planes out of OKC. Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) is the most common destination, with Denver (DEN) being a close second.
You will need to bring a pen, as the cache is small and does not have one.
