Geocache Description:

A series about the Hunter Expressway

The Hunter Expressway is a vital link between the M1(F3) at Seahampton and the New England Highway at Branxton. It is a 39.5-kilometre long dual carriageway freeway with two lanes in each direction. Funding of $1.5 billion for the road construction was announced in the 2009 Australian federal budget, and construction commenced on 11 August 2010. The original contracted opening date was September 2013, but construction delays caused this to be delayed until January 2014.

The project will be completed in two sections. The first stage was awarded to Thiess in a joint venture alliance with Parsons Brinckerhoff and Hyder Consulting. They had the task of constructing the first 13 kilometres from the M1 to Kurri Kurri, while the 27 kilometres from Kurri Kurri to Branxton was awarded to AbiGroup(RMS 2014).

Mr Chippyroo worked on the construction of the AbiGroup section of the project, while he was there he performed general labouring duties, the operation of 20 tonne rollers and an 825H compactor.

This is one of only a couple of half interchanges on the project. This one is slightly different than the other on as it has two roundabouts at each ramp due to the driveways and property accesses in close proximity.
